I don’t have the time to read a lot of extra books these days. It seems that most of my reading is either study-related or trying to keep up on current events. Several weeks ago I caught an interview on the Michael Medved radio show with one of the authors of Start Up Nation. I was fascinated with the interview, and bought two copies immediately, one for myself and one for a friend.
This book is one of the most interesting books that I have read in a long time. Dan Senor & Saul Singer have done an excellent job compiling details of what has lead to the unique success of the nation of Israel. Each chapter is outlines a different area in which Israel has adapted to difficult circumstances and not only overcome adversity, but excelled by fostering an entrepreneurial spirit.
As a “fan” of Israel because of our spiritual heritage, I was greatly encourage by understanding how God has continued to bless this people in the midst of trails. One of the highlights was the story of how Ebay®/Paypal® bought an Israeli security start-up to enhance their fraud protection, a technology that the Israelis have developed due to the necessity of tracking terrorists -an example of how adversity has created opportunity.
Start Up Nation is a great read for anyone who wants to understand the Jewish people, and understand the principles of leadership that have made them a uniquely prosperous and influential nation in a global economy.
