The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good. The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God. They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one. Do all the workers of wickedness not know, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call upon the LORD? There they are in great dread, For God is with the righteous generation. You would put to shame the counsel of the afflicted, But the LORD is his refuge.
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores His captive people, Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad. –Psalm 14 (NASB)
This Psalm is a shocker to those who think that they are “basically good people,” God would argue,.. “Uh, no you are not.” Apart from Christ’s redeeming work in our lives we are all corrupt and self-seeking rather than seeking God. Though I would have said I believed in God, before I was a Christian, the truth is, my lifestyle proved otherwise. I was a fool. God is not mocked. Those who claim to know God, but live contrary to His guidance in their lives, are fools.
David, wrote this Psalm looking forward to the Messiah to come. Jesus is the only way to have a relationship with God, and to know Him. Once you find Him, you will rejoice indeed.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” –John 14:6 (NASB)
