A Psalm of David.
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. –Psalm 23:1
When David was about face Goliath of Gath, he recounted his exploits as a shepherd boy: And David said, “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” – 1 Sam. 17:37
David knew the Lord as his deliverer. This is one of the main things that a shepherd provides for sheep -deliverance from trouble. When the lion or bear came to devour the sheep, David rose up in the strength of his God and delivered them from trouble.
Jesus said: “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” – John 10:11
He laid down His life for us, to provide the ultimate deliverance -our salvation. He has saved us from the penalty of our sins. Spiritually speaking, there is nothing that the believer has not been provided in Christ, we do not “want” for anything, all has been provided by the Good Shepherd of our souls.
If you do not know Jesus as your Savior,… as your Shepherd, ask Him to be that for you today.
