He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. –Psalm 23:2
Ahhh, green pastures and quiet waters,… sounds good after a busy week doesn’t it?
As a shepherd, David knew how to lead sheep to these kinds of places, places of comfort and nourishment.
Green pastures are places of quiet and safe grazing, quiet waters are cool deep pools of precious life-giving water. Both are necessary for life, and sheep need to be led there.
When you follow Jesus, this is where He will lead you.
It won’t however, always look like the idyllic pasture land that we imagine, it’s much more than that.
The kind of peaceful pasture that Jesus provids could be anywhere, in any situation.
David spent a lot of time in Engedi hiding from the murderous King Saul. Engedi rises above the barren landscape surrounding the dead sea, where nothing lives. Nothing in the sea, and nothing around it for miles. But david was led to the springs, and the canyons of this oasis in the desert. It was here that he found safety, provision, and comfort. It was far from the pasture lands of his youth, and yet the provision was the same.
It’s like that for the believer. One has only to turn his or her heart fully to Jesus, and we would know this place.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:7
If you do not know Jesus as your Savior,… as your Shepherd, ask Him to be that for you today.
He will lead you to these peaceful places.
